OUR MISSION 

The Outside Project is an LGBTIQ+ Centre, Crisis Shelter, Trans Winter Night Shelter, DVA Refuge and Outreach Service in London

 

We exist in response to those within the LGBTIQ+ community who feel endangered, who are homeless, ‘hidden’ homeless and feel that they are on the outside of services due to historical and present prejudice in society and in their homes. 

 

Solidarity. Not charity.

 

LGBTIQ+ people can often find it difficult to access non-LGBTIQ+ systems and services due to psychological, systemic and structural barriers, LGBTIQ+ phobia and criminalisation in our history and other countries around the world.

 

Our aim is that you are provided the support you need without feeling that you need to compromise on your expression of self and identity or your psychological and physical safety.

We aim to support you until you are connected to the right services and feel safe.

 

Community

 

Our LGBTIQ+ Centre is a hub for connection and solidarity offering community space, housing advice and advocacy, showers, free shop, a weekly dinner party, homelessness recovery groups, space for other specialist grassroots organisations to operate, an LGBTIQ+ Library, our own special blend of Cafe Queero coffee beans and a range of Queer activities and workshops throughout the week.

 

Housing

 

Our housing advocates ensure whatever service you need to access respects your identity and has an understanding of the unique barriers and needs of LGBTIQ+ people.

We host the only LGBTIQ+ outreach service in Westminster, a crisis shelter in North London, Trans Winter Night Shelter in Hackney and a DVA Refuge

 

Campaigning 

 

Our crew advocates for LGBTIQ+ rights and needs within wider systems and services - we will amplify our community’s voice to ensure the services we need to access are paid for, respects your identity and has an understanding of the unique barriers and needs of LGBTIQ+ people.
